The online education segment is set to become a multi-billion dollar opportunity in India. The education industry in India is showing upward trends. Reskilling and online certifications are currently the largest segments in online education. Based on the insight of Google search, a report finds that the paid user base will grow in the coming years. Keeping the trends insight, the electronics maker, Panasonic India, has made its entry into the education technology sector by launching two applications. The first one is named as CareerEx and the other is XcelIT. Both the apps are available on Android as well as IOS app stores, and a fee will be charged to get access. The subscription of CareerX courses starts at nearly USD140 per month onwards, while XcelIT starts at USD14 per month.

The CareerX is made keeping in mind the requirements of college and university students. It will address the needs of college and university students to advance their skillset with emerging technologies such as data science, machine learning, cloud computing, the Internet of Things (IoT), and many more.  The second solution, named XcelIT, is designed for school students primarily residing in Tier I & III cities to make them get ready for the competitive examinations. The company seems to capture the growing need to upskill students. With every aspect of our lives being dominated by computers and online channels, education has slowly has shifted to the digital domain.

Panasonic has collaborated with specialized educational partners to provide expertise for this program while students can look at increasing their employability, educational institutions can enable students with in-demand job skills and thus, improve their ranking and the industry can save on fresher recruitment and training costs. The applications are developed by the company to upskill students as well as to address the unemployment rate amongst urban youth. The company is looking to impact around 100,000 students over the span of next 5 years.
