EBay Inc is now open to the possibility of accepting cryptocurrency as a payment in the future. It is now looking for ways to get non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on its platform. Many companies now have begun to accept virtual currencies as a payment, taking an asset class that had been shunned by major financial institutions a few years ago, a step closer to becoming mainstream.
Tesla Inc. has already started accepting bitcoin as payment for its electric cars, whereas payments giant PayPal started allowing its customers to buy, sell and hold cryptocurrencies using its online wallets since last year. As per an interview, the Paypal stated, “It always looked at the most relevant forms of payment and it will continue to assess that going forward. It has no immediate plans, but cryotocurrency is something they are keeping an eye on.”
NFTs is a kind of digital asset that live on a blockchain. It has accelerated popularity this year, with NFT artworks selling for millions of dollars and musicians such as the Kings of Leon rock group embracing them for their latest album.
