WHO South-East Asia Region Launches Regional Forum for Primary Healthcare-Oriented Health System

A robust primary health care (PHC)-centric healthcare system is the most equitable and efficient approach to achieving universal health coverage and health security. To accelerate his PHC-centric transformation of health systems, WHO South-East Asia Regional Member States, WHO, and partners launched the Southeast Asia Regional Forum on Primary Care-Centric Health Systems.

The importance of a PHC-centric healthcare system came to the fore during the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent economic challenges. “In the ongoing response and recovery from COVID-19, the demands on the local health system are increasing, not only the country to sustain but also raising health care costs- Regional Director, of WHO South-East Asia said while addressing the participants at the launch of the PHC forum.

The regional PHC Forums will gather and promote implementation-oriented knowledge and experience, enhance cooperation among development, implementation, and research partners to achieve member country priorities, increase PHC investment in the region, promote cross-border action through the shared advocacy of Member States' priorities and needs drive his PHC Forum in the region, with partners providing support.
