India’s aim of producing and circulating 2 billion vaccine doses may not be achieved until rural areas step-up

India has now set a target to produce over 2 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines by the end of December this year which is expected to inoculate a major chunk of 1.3 billion people. However, the official authorities are having a hard time to convince people for getting shots, especially those residing in rural areas and small towns where the high degree of hesitancy for opting vaccine is there let alone the vaccine delivery and proper access.

The consideration and the amount of eagerness in India’s urban areas for getting inoculated is huge wherein people witnessed disastrous outbreak and want to avoid any other lockdown. India’s has its urban centers over packed, including many metropolis cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Pune that had felt the wrath of a disastrous COVID-19 wave that started in February and peaked back in May.

India is in a desperate need for an efficient vaccination drive plan for helping those rural areas to get access to vaccination centers more easily and get inoculated. It includes setting up vaccination centers for people nearby their towns so they don’t have to travel long distances for getting a shot. India must also consider vaccination units and centers that are mobile in nature for their ability to reach areas with little to no infrastructure including villages.

Many people in rural areas and small towns in India are confronting a technological barrier and thereby getting registration for getting a vaccination shot. At the present moment, India has developed an online portal known to be Co-Win, wherein most people can start scheduling their appointments and registration before getting to the center. Vaccination centers can only provide a limited number of people to enter and get slots every day.
