India can offer tremendous IP to healthcare AI: Oracle

Oracle Corporation anticipates that India will play a significant part in the creation of AI-based healthcare solutions. According to Mike Sicilia, executive vice president of Oracle's worldwide business operations, the variety of healthcare data coming out of India could aid in the advancement of medical AI research.

The company's annual event, Oracle Cloudworld, which was hosted in Las Vegas was where executive vice president made her remarks. The company's chairman and CTO, said healthcare technology is one of the primary focuses on Oracle's future roadmap. The company wants to create electronic health records (EHR) that can be used to communicate medical data internationally in addition to being made available on a national level.

"Given its concentration on AI and ML, India is in a unique position, in my opinion, to make a significant intellectual property (IP) contribution to digital care initiatives. In other words, by rapidly replicating all the various inputs from a patient, the computer will help the doctor, nurse, etc. identify the optimum care plan for a patient", according to chairman, who noted that the nation has a "preponderance" of health tech businesses concentrating in AI and ML.

Oracle anticipates a rapid increase in partnerships with Indian startups as it continues to develop its data centers and application base in the nation. India is a sizable market for healthcare and technology in general.

This June, Austin, Texas-based Oracle successfully completed the $28 billion acquisition of Cerner Corporation, an American provider of healthcare information services. According to a blog post on the company's website, Cerner also has a presence in India and has so far digitalized 135 institutions there, including 47 basic health centers.
