VW to drive first EV into India next year

Volkswagen has unveiled the production version of the ID4 Electric SUV, which is based on the company's future electric vehicle concept. The ID.4 will also be Volkswagen's first electric vehicle for the Indian market. SUVs are becoming increasingly popular among people all around the world. Since they provide good visibility, safety, room, and comfort, they are the most popular vehicle segment. For the first time, Volkswagen is introducing a fully electric SUV with the ID.4.

The ID.4's battery can store up to 77 kWh of energy (net) and has a range of up to 520 kilometers. The battery, which is located beneath the passenger compartment, ensures a low center of gravity and helps the SUV's handling. The rear-mounted electric drive motor produces 150 kW (204 PS), allowing the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 8.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 160 km/h. With a ground clearance of 210mm, the rear-wheel-drive EV is appropriate for light off-roading. LED headlamps and taillamps, a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, voice-activated controls, a multi-function steering wheel, keyless entry, and ambient lighting are all standard on the VW ID.4.

The ID4 is available in Europe for 49,950 Euro (Rs 43.10 lacs) for the 1st Edition model and 59,950 Euro (Rs 51.72 lacs) for the 1st Edition Max. In the following months, Volkswagen will add more trim levels to the ID4.

In terms of the Indian market, the car is expected around 2022, and VW will provide 2500 ID4 electric SUVs via CBU (fully built-up unit). The VW ID4 electric SUV is expected to cost roughly Rs. 60 Lacs in India (ex-showroom).
