Pandemic coronavirus-IIT Bombay launches 'CORONTINE' to track people fleeing quarantine

A dedicated team at IIT Bombay has developed a platform, CORONTINE, to monitor potential / suspected (asymptomatic) coronavirus carriers along with some qualified and experienced alumni. CORONTINE is flexible, detailed, scalable and ready to use according to a statement by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay.

Individuals travelled abroad before the end of February 2020 were advised to quarantine at home for at least 14 days to see whether they experience COVID-19 symptoms such as fatigue, dry cough, sore throat and shortness of breath.

CORONTINE makes geo-fence and generates warnings (SMS, email, etc.) automatically when users step out of the quarantined zone. The CORONTINE platform allows for the grouping of zones into regions and many other functions of this type. IIT Bombay also said that the app is highly responsive to agency needs.

To access the full features of the CORONTINE application, only an approved person can login as admin.

The IIT Bombay team that created the app includes Professor Ganesh Ramakrishnan, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and Professor Manjesh Hanawal, IEOR department, IIT Bombay.

CORONTINE's results will inform whether one has come into touch with someone suffering from COVID-19 as the device will regularly send mobile GPS coordinates to a server under oversight. Alternatively, if a consumer enters a specified quarantined zone marked with a geo-fence, it will auto-detect.
