Apple targets to increase the production share from India to up to 25%

The commerce minister stated at a conference on Monday that Apple Inc. wants India to account for up to 25% of its output from the current 5% to 7% level as the iPhone manufacturer continues to shift its manufacturing away from China. Piyush Goyal praised Apple as "yet another success story" while promoting India as a viable location for manufacturing. "About 5 to 7 percent of their production is already done in India. If I'm not incorrect, they want to increase their manufacturing by 25%. They unveiled the newest models from India that were made in India."

Based in Cupertino, California Since it started assembling iPhones there in 2017 with Wistron and then with Foxconn, Apple has made a significant investment in the nation in keeping with the push for domestic manufacturing made by the Indian government.

Reuters was informed late last year that Foxconn planned to treble the workforce at its iPhone manufacturing in India over the course of two years. The electronics and IT minister of India, Ashwini Vaishnaw, tweeted on Monday that Apple's exports from India reached $1 billion in December.

Apple's decision to move manufacture overseas has been driven by China's COVID-related lockdowns and restrictions as well as escalating economic and geopolitical tensions between Beijing and Washington. In contrast to the current 5%, J.P. Morgan analysts predicted that by 2025, a quarter of all Apple goods will be produced outside of China.
