The National Health Authority (NHA) launched a Health Exchange platform to digitize and simplify the health insurance claim submission process. Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) is the first insurance scheme in the world to implement this digital solution, with the platform launching in Haryana and then rolling out across India. NITI Aayog’s term for those who are not poor enough to be covered by government insurance, nor rich enough to afford private care.
At the heart of PM-JAY is ensuring access to affordable healthcare services. The program started with 107 million household recipient base and now he has expanded to 147 million households in 33 states/UT. The NHA is working with various departments to extend the reach of the PM-JAY ecosystem to eligible populations without medical protection. PM-JAY is working with NITI Aayog and other ministries to develop mechanisms to identify other missing groups and extend health coverage to them using various types of funds. The completed Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MoSJE) to expand health services for the transgender population.
