On June 10, 2022,- Chinese carmaker BYD (Build Your Dreams) is preparing to enter the Indian passenger vehicle space with plans to launch Atto 3 at the 2023 Auto Expo in January.BYD launched Atto 3 in China in February 2022.

In 2017, BYD made its debut in India in the commercial segment with electric buses, followed by its all-electric MPV, the e6, in November 2021for the fleet segment. Now, BYD is gearing up to take a plunge into the profuse market with Atto 3. Its straight rival is the MG ZS EV; measuring 1,875mm in width, 4m in length, and having a wheelbase of 2,720mm, though the Atto 3 is greater in every dimension. Moreover, BYD Atto 3’s permanent magnet synchronous motor generates 204hp and 310Nm of max torque making it comparatively stronger. BYD claims a 0-100kph time of just 7.3 seconds for this SUV weighing between 1,680-1,750kg.

In international markets, the Atto 3 is present with a choice of two battery packs –60.48kWh as well as 49.92kWh– with a WLTP range of 420km and 320km respectively. The Atto 3 utilizes the company’s patented Blade Battery Technology, which is considered to be more forgiving and far safer in antagonistic conditions as compared to other battery technologies. The charging options comprise a 3-pin AC or a Type-2 AC charger, and it also aids up to 80kW DC fast charging that is claimed to recharge its battery pack in a very short time duration of less than an hour.
