IATA claims that reviving the Air India brand is challenging

According to the International Air Transport Association director general, New Air India has committed supporters and investors, but it is a long way from being able to compete with carriers like Etihad and Emirates. He added "This is a very positive development for Air India, in my opinion. It is important to regard the merger of Air India and Vistara, especially with Singapore Airlines' acquisition of a 25.1% interest, as a positive move”.

He did, however, issue a warning that the freshly privatized national carrier still has a long way to go to restore its reputation, which he claimed has been damaged over the past 25 years as a result of ceding a sizable portion of the domestic market to rival carriers.

With a market share of 56.7% as of October, IndiGo is the biggest domestic airline in India, followed by Vistara (9.2%), Air India (9.1%), and AirAsia India (7.6%). Four airlines operate under the Air India brand, which is owned by the Tata Group: Air India, AirAsia India, Vistara, and the low-cost international airline Air India Express.
