Vancouver-based company “SaNOtize” will start clinical trials in U.K. for their anti-COVID nasal spray.

On11th Jan, 2021, the news published thatSaNOtize will be starting clinical trials for their anti-COVID-19 nasal spray in U.K. SaNOtize recently got approval to start clinical trials in U.S.A, and has already completed first phase 2 trials in Canada. Dr. Gilly Regev, CEO and co-founder of the company said, none of the 100 people treated with spray contacted the virus.

“This indigenous nasal spray can potentially prevent people from getting infected, and hopefully can treat the disease in early stages. “said Dr Gilly Regev. She added that Nigerian government is considering defining the spray as a medical device, instead of a medicine or vaccine, which means it’ll be much easier to get approval in that country.

The nasal spray uses nitric oxide as the main component. Studies suggest that nitric oxide may prevent the virus from nose into the respiratory system.

DrRegev further added that nitric oxide used in the spray is completely manufactured from the compounds present in the food. “There are compounds present in the food, which produce a small amount of nitric oxide, when you combine them.” She said. DrRegev further explained, “Nitric oxide is present inside all human bodies. It is also used to treat respiratory diseases in babies.”

We call it “Sanitizer for nose” at SaNOtize, Dr Regev Said.  When asked why they call it that, she said, “We believe it can be used as a preventive measure against infection. People can use it if they believe they have been exposed to COVID-19. She further added that they are in regular contact with Health Canada and are hoping that the government will provide them funds for a large scale clinical trial.

“We are Canadians, and we are proud of it. We just want to help our people. It is really frustrating that this process is going really slow in Canada. We hope we’ll get the approval for further trials and the funds from the government for the trials, so we can move forward with this, and help our people, but for now, it is the way it is.” She said.

When asked about the scale of the future clinical trial, Dr Regev said, “The large scale trial that we are planning, will involve 4000 people. We are hoping to conduct it in few months after getting the funds and approval from the government.”

“Everyone should carry this. It is safe, and easy to use. We haven’t had any adverse events till now, and we hope it’ll continue the same way. We are happy to help people in these tough times, and we hope to make it available as soon as possible.”
