Qualcomm launches new IFA 2020 Active Noise Cancelation Technology

Qualcomm unveiled a brand-new adaptive active noise cancelling technology at IFA 2020 on Sept. 03, 2020, targeted at earbuds that offer integrated ANC features. The system aims to enhance how well the active cancellation of noise functions in earphones. This is achieved by changing ANC in real-time based on factors such as the earbuds fit in the ears of the user and environmental factors such as ambient sound.

That means that the system will not only automatically boost Active Noise Cancelation on earphones that use the new Bluetooth Audio SoC, but it will also change it automatically when you use it. When you're sitting on your desk, for example, and then you get up and walk around, the movement can cause adjustments to how the earphones match your ear. With the latest tech from Qualcomm, ANC can automatically adapt in real-time to even those updates.

Qualcomm aims to rid itself of all this. The company says consumers will no longer need to conduct fit checks and sound checks on their earbuds with its new Adaptive ANC software or to try out different ear tips to get a better seal. Additionally, when you are in low noise settings, Adaptive ANC can gradually decrease in volume and ramp up when the ambient noise rises. Anything on its own, without the user having to change noise cancellation levels or anything of the sort.

The new technology will be available on the newest Bluetooth Audio SoC — QCC514x by Qualcomm. However, when we can begin to see consumer-facing goods using the new SoC, the company has not shed any light on it.
